Striving for a better balance with Successful Mums
Successful Mums took part in the global celebrations for International Women’s Day on 8th March with a very special event at Beckenham Place Mansion. One hundred wonderful women joined us to raise a glass to the achievements of our Successful Mums, get down to some fantastic networking, and hear stacks of career and business inspiration.
International Women’s Day is a great reminder that our work is part of a much bigger picture. With the theme #BalanceforBetter, this year’s campaign is calling for everyone to play their part in building a more gender-balanced world. We believe that a better balance can help communities, businesses and economies thrive and it’s a thread that connects everything we do.
We’re only a few months into 2019 but are already seeing our latest Successful Mums make some big changes. Since the start of the year, we’ve taken 100 women through our fun and professional Back to Work course and connected them with some fantastic local employers. This has resulted in lots of new roles, ranging from operations manager, receptionist and customer service rep, to teaching assistant and senior administrator. Successful Mums is, however, about more than just helping women find work: it’s also about changing lives and self-perception. It doesn’t happen overnight but the key is to help women make small steps of progress towards where they want to be.
Also making progress are our first Business Start-up mums of 2019, who are busy turning their business dreams into reality. These enterprising women are currently getting to grips with a range of topics that aren’t taught at school: writing a business plan, gaining customers, setting price points and working out what a social media strategy really is! We’re always intrigued by the variety of business ideas our mums bring to the table, and this group’s exciting plans range from vegan food and fencing companies to event management and social media consultancies.
Moving into March and beyond, we’re excited to be bringing our Back to Work course to Chislehurst for the first time (with the brilliant Ada & Albert), as well returning to Croydon and The Glades. We’re also looking forward to meeting more budding business women at our next Business Start-up course.
So why not celebrate International Women’s Day by finding out more about what we do and reading some of our inspiring Success Stories? This time next year, we could be celebrating you!
