Jane’s Monthly Column – December 2018
What a year for Successful Mums!
The Christmas countdown has truly begun: the Christmas parties are in full swing, those pesky elves are back off their shelves and the last of our 2018 workshops are all wrapped up.
The past 12 months have been a whirlwind of activity and our amazing network of mums, employers, experts and supporters has grown and taken on a life of its own.
There’s so much to celebrate and to be grateful for, so in my last column of 2018, I’d like to look back at some of my personal highlights of the Successful Mums year.
More Successful Mums than ever before
With Tasters, Back to Work courses and Business Start-ups, we’ve helped over 700 mums start new chapters in their lives in 2018. I love the idea that when you sign up for our courses, you can become part of an incredibly passionate and engaged community of local women, and our latest stories of #mumssupportingmums are definitely among my favourites this year.
Growing my Successful Mums team
When I set up Successful Mums back in 2014, it was pretty much just me at my kitchen table. But as the number of mums through our doors has grown, so too has the team. There are 12 of us now, all working flexibly around our families and all are committed to helping women achieve personal success. It feels like it’s about time they said hello, so look out for our Meet the Team in 2019.
Business Start-up Diploma success
I was delighted when our popular Business Start-up programme became an accredited course this year, with our first Successful Mums awarded their Diplomas. The course has long been a favourite among our enterprising mums and I’m thrilled that we can now also offer them the chance to earn a recognised qualification to enhance their CVs and business credibility.
Bringing more employers on board
The Beast from the East made sure we wouldn’t forget our first Croydon Taster Session in a hurry! But the snow proved no match for our Successful Mums and their hosts, IKEA, who have now been joined by other big names this year, including Direct Line Group and Bromley’s The Glades, as well as a host of local small businesses, all demonstrating their commitment to supporting women in the workplace and enterprise.
OneFile’s Susanna Lawson and I were absolutely blown away by the response to our Returner Survey in 2018! More than 850 of you helped us get some fantastic insights into the simple, practical steps employers can take to ensure a better transition for mums returning from maternity leave. The results showed without a shadow of a doubt that a positive experience is not just good for mums, it’s good for business and these key messages will inform our work with employers in 2019 and beyond…
Our biggest Returners Day to date
Last month’s fantastic Returners Day at Direct Line Group’s Bromley HQ was also our biggest event of the year. More than 100 Successful Mums joined us for a day of expert career advice, inspiration, motivation, networking and personal insights from a brilliant panel of the company’s own women returners. Success stories about the women that have started coming soon..
As well as supporting mums we continue to raise funds for a range of charities including the Evelina Children’s Hospital. We’ve climbed mountains, abseiled down buildings and run over 100 miles in the name of charity and some fun along the way too. We have more adventures lined up for 2019, so get your trainers at the ready!
I big thank you to all the people that support me on the Successful Mums Journey.
A very special thank you to Daniel and Anna Rose, who are the inspiration behind my business.
I wish you all a wonderful Christmas and a healthy and exciting 2019!
