Jane Knight’s Monthly Column – July 2018
School’s out for Successful Mums!
Alice Cooper might provide the soundtrack to the summer holidays but, with more women graduating from our courses than ever before, it’s our Successful Mums who really rock…
With the end of term upon us, it’s the perfect time to reflect on what we’ve achieved this year and look ahead to some of the fantastic opportunities lined up for September and beyond.
Our Business Start-up and Back to Work courses have gone from strength to strength and I’m delighted that we’ve been able to offer workshops to Croydon parents for the first time in this year.
I can’t help but be inspired by the hard work and dedication of all the mums who’ve joined us to start new chapters in their lives. I’ve loved reading their success stories – like that of the enterprising Raquel Varela, our latest grad to share her journey – and am blown away by the breadth of their vision, their ambition and their all-round kick-ass, crown-wearing confidence!
I’ve also been thrilled to have so many of our grads return to talk at our workshops, demonstrating that #thismumcan and helping more women on their way. In the last month alone, we’ve welcomed back Jane Altree to share her business journey at our Glades Taster; Helen Manchip to advise our Croydon Back to Work mums on job hunting via social media; and Niki Fisher and Angie Stephens to share their specialist knowledge with our latest Business Start-up group.
This growing community of Successful Mums is very special to me. I love the idea that when you sign up for one of our courses, you’ll not only benefit from our trainers’ experience and expertise but will also get the chance to be part of an incredibly passionate and engaged network of #mumssupportingmums.
For me, that spirit was encapsulated in June by the fantastic response to our Returners Survey, another highlight of my year. We’re now getting on with analysing the results and, thanks to the 850 of you who took part, hoping to make a real difference to women’s experiences after maternity leave in the future. Susanna Lawson and I will be presenting our preliminary findings at the Celebration of Women in Apprenticeships Conference this month, where I’ll also be exploring more avenues for returning mums.
While I definitely don’t want to fast-forward the summer holidays, now feels like a great time to remind you that our Courses page is bursting with new dates for your diaries, starting when the schools go back in September.
If your kids are on the cusp of new adventures – whether starting primary school, moving to secondary or simply entering a new year – there’s no better time than now to think about your own adventures and make plans for what you’d like to be doing come the autumn. So if you’re thinking of shaking up your CV and getting back into employment or taking your first steps towards being your own boss, have a look at our Back to Work, Business Start-up and Taster Sessions in Bromley, Bexley and Croydon – and book your place today.
A big thank you to everyone that continues to support the work we do, including my fantastic team of Succesful Mums and a Successful Dad too!
Enjoy the summer.
