When the time came to expand her luxury interiors business, Suzanne turned to Successful Mums to help her find the right match. Initially looking to hire one person, Suzanne was so impressed by our candidates that she ended up taking on two!

The designer was struck by the huge range of skills and experience that the Successful Mums candidates could bring to her growing business and, during her interviews, identified a second opportunity to enhance her team.
“After meeting Sarah, I really wanted to look at how we could work together, going forward,” she says. “She was also keen to come in and volunteer, to get a feel for how we work and to rebuild her confidence a bit in a professional environment. That was helpful for both of us and Sarah’s now working for us in a project-management role a couple of days a week, too.
“So I’ve found two women through Successful Mums, who are bringing different things to the team. They’re working flexibly around their families, which is great for them, and it’s great for me as they’ve brought so much more to my business than if I’d just taken on one person full-time.”
It’s no wonder Suzanne’s an advocate of flexible working and it’s clear she’s given a lot of thought to why it’s good for her business and her employees.
“I think people work better if the hours suit their needs – if they aren’t dashing out of the house early to get their kids to a childminder and then rushing to work with their mind all over the place. If you give them some flexibility, like a later start, then when they arrive, they’re calm, they’re ready for work, they’re happier and more focused,” she says.
This is one of the reasons why Suzanne was drawn to Successful Mums in the first place.
“The work they do really resonates with me because I’m a mum myself. My kids are older now but I understand the challenges. When I look back to all the times I had to drop my kids off in an empty playground to get to work on time … I hated doing it but I had no choice. It’s good to think that’s now changing and it means a lot to me to be part of that.”
